about

An Abstractivist Observacational Journey up a Mountain
audio version
review from Venue magazine
" Dick has been frontman of and power behind four generations of local punk anarchist institutions, currently Citizen Fish. Onstage he's a whirlwind of words, and this is mostly why his bands have survived and passed into legend, why fans learn the words and how come he still answers their letters, 15+ years on. This isn't his first book, though it is the first to claim a running narrative throughout. Someone who knows him a good deal better than I [hi Pete] said about this book- 'it's a bit like having Dick talk at you when he's drunk'. That's a pretty good summation. am I advising you to buy some pised-up punk's babble, then? Frankly, yes I am. For all its comic-book twists and reversals, the storyline is coherent, connected, though far from the point or the heart of the book. The thing is that Dick loves words, and thrives on chains of ideas, two essential components for a songwriter of whateverb stripe, and this is an extended exercise in precisely that- not extended nearly so far as to outstay its welcome, however. It's not pretentious, it's occasionally silly, still-more-occasionally sensible and even manages to tell you a thing or two along the way, usually by-the-by. For the price of a Green Day CD you could buy this book and A LOT OF CIDER, read it yourself under the influence and pass the package round to a few friends the same; it will contribute immensely more to your enjoyment and even your life. That's the right way."

Dick Lucas Bath, UK

howdo, this place is where I plan to put some or more of the Other Stuff- separate to my usual existence as singer for Subhumans/Culture Shock/Citizen Fish- stuff that I've done or haven't done yet that will just lie around otherwise unheard. Which is daft. cheers! ... more
